What do you call a friend who would never be?

What do you call a friend who would never be?
Yet so blindly he spoke of you and me

What do you call a friend who whispered for me?
In silent night he rode and found nothing to speak

What do you call a friend who was never to keep?
Yet he fed himself from your little hands of grief

What do you call a friend who killed for you and me?
Every truth that dared to stand he laid them to sleep

What do you call a friend who broke his creed?
Hazy visions in dim lights led him to me

What do you call a friend who never lied to me?
It was difficult for him but still kept everything for me

What do you call a friend who lived inside of me?
Crept in my mind with his fake melodies

What do you call a friend who would never be?
Whatever he said he would be, he never was and never would be

What do you call a friend who sang for me?
Horrid lies and wicked dreams are crimes of his indeed
